Halil Kaymaklılı

Born in 1942 in the district of Küçük Kaymaklı, Nicosia, Halil Kaymaklılı was the son of a coal producer family. He was a well known journalist who had succeeded in his career by leaving many traces in his life, he worked as a photographer, lawyer’s assistant, sports photojournalist, and an officer at the State Information Department. Kaymaklılı, sharing his life with Dr. Fazıl Küçük, the leader of the Turkish Cypriot’s slept even under the stairs in the printing house where Dr. Küçük said “Once you smell the air here, it is hard to get rid of it”. He suffered from illnesses for years. Halil Kaymaklılı, who started his career in 1966 at Halkın Sesi newspaper, received his first official press card from the Republic of Cyprus in 1970. Kaymaklılı served for the State Information Department between 1973-85 and later worked for the Halkın Sesi newspaper (Voice of People) and specialized especially in court news. Halil Kaymaklılı was one of the journalists who was given the Journalism Service Honor Award by the Cyprus Turkish Journalists Union in 2010. He died on November 13, 2013.
