Gazi Yüksel

He was born on October 17, 1963 in Nicosia. His father is Halit Yüksel, who is known as “Our Watchmaker”, and his mother is İlter Yüksel, a tailor. After graduating from Haydarpaşa Commercial High School, he started working as a journalist for Birlik Newspaper in 1981. In 1985, he joined the Turkish Agency-Cyprus. After serving as a photojournalist for 15 years, he retired from here. In the meantime, since 1991, he started to teach Basic Photography courses for Near East University. After his retirement, he continued to work as a full time teacher for NEU. He is still teaching Basic Photography, Press Photography, Studio Photography, Advertising Photography and Image Processing at the Faculty of Communication. Between the years of 1987-2013, he opened 11 solo photo exhibitions including news, sports, dark room and computer photographs. Some of these exhibitions were repeated in Istanbul, Ankara, Adana, Izmir and Akşehir. He organized the event of International Photography Days of Near East University eight times between the years 1999-2013. He graduated from Department of Plastic Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design in 2012. In 2018, he completed his masters degree at the same department. He is the Coordinator of the Vocational School of Photography and Videography under the Faculty of Communication. He is married to Gülin Yüksel and has two children and one grandchild.
