Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts to open today

The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, which is located opposite the NEU Car Museum on campus of Near East University and where the important works of painters from 14 Turkic States, will be opened with a ceremony today.

According to a press info released by the Near East University Press and Public Relations Directorate, the opening ceremony of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts will be held on September 27, 2018, Thursday, at 09.30 with participation of Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman, Minister of Education and Culture Cemal Özyiğit, Tourism and Environment Minister Fikri Atağolu, TÜRKSOY Secretary General, deputies, state officials, artists and invited guests from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Turkic states.

The museum will open its doors to art lovers 6 days a week…
The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, which was brought in the Turkish Cypriot community, will be open to visitors between 10.00 - 16.00 hours, six days a week, except Monday. The citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, who will visit the museum on Sundays, will receive a 50% discount. The 0-12 age group will not be charged an entrance fee to the museum.

Selected Works of Artists from 14 Turkic States will be featured in the museum.
The Cyprus Museum of Moderns Arts will have a rich collection of works of artists from 14 Turkic States. Works to be exhibited at the Museum reflecting different stages and a wide range of style and ecole of painters especially from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Gagauzia, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Daghestan, Altai, Tuva Republic, and Halai Republic will take place in the museum.

The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, which has the mission of bringing together the cultural identity with the international art environment, establishing a modern space of art deserved by our artistic values and ensure institutionalization of artistic values by hosting a new and wide platform to represent art works, and giving a new impetus to the international common understanding on this issue.


Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel: “A new window will be opened to the world of art"
Near East University, President of the Board of Trustees Assoc.Prof. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel stated that they will continue to make investments that will play an important role in increasing the value of art and artist in order to ensure the sustainable integration of society with art. Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel also said that the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts will be one of the new stops of the art lovers.

President of the Board of Trustees of NEU, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Günsel saying that in addition to the exhibitions to be held in the venue, seminars, art talks and workshops will be held on the subject of art, emphasized that the Cyprus Museum of Modern is a project that will connect our past and future in terms of thought and feeling, too. The museum, which will play an active role in introducing the Turkish Cypriot art to the country and to the world, will promote the works of our artists, provide them with opportunities to present their own works to the public and support the Turkish Cypriot arts while presenting the works of art of the artists of other countries to our artists and art lovers.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel also emphasized that since the establishment of the Near East University, they adopted the mission and principle to integrate culture and art as well as integration of scientific studies and social benefit-oriented projects. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Günsel also said that the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, as part of the missions of the Near East Family, will build and guide the future, and will be one of the most important and meaningful indicators of its mission to protect its history, education, economy and health as well as its culture and art.
