“Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National Struggle” Exhibition will be opened by the President of TRNC Mustafa Akıncı and will be exhibited in the 14 Turkic Republics

  • Cyprus Turkish National History Museum is exhibiting the Existence Struggle of the Turkish Cypriots

Functioning under the body of Near East University Foundation of Education, Cyprus Turkish National Museum is organising an exhibition in memory of the Great Turkish Cypriot Leader Dr. Fazıl Küçük on the 35th anniversary of his death. The exhibition themed as “Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National Strive” will be opened on 15th January 2019 by the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Mustafa Akıncı.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the exhibition will be held at the Art Gallery (which functions under the Cyprus Modern Art Museum), positioned at the NEU Atatürk Culture and Congress Centre. It was revealed that the exhibition will be opened on Tuesday, 15th January 2019 at 11:00 by the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Mustafa Akıncı.

Furthermore, it was expressed that the Cyprus Turkish National Museum was established with the support of Near East University and University of Kyrenia on Near East University campus and the exhibition soon to be opened comprised art work, statues, photographs, pottery and objects depicting those days.

Moreover, the exhibition will be available to visit for a month and it will also include photographs related to the National Strive and Dr. Fazıl Küçük, all taken by Cypriot Photographers who lived during those years.


Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul: “A meaningful event by the Cyprus Turkish National History Museum…”
Dean of Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Near East University and Founding Member of the Managing Board Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul expressed that the exhibition themed as “Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National Strive” was being organised to make a contribution to the Cyprus Turkish National History Museum inventory.

Providing further details, it was expressed that as one of the most important symbols of the Turkish Cypriot existence, the Cyprus Turkish National History Museum was brought to life with the vision of the Founding Rector Dr. Suat İ. Günsel so as to become a mean to reach future generations to tell the story of our past and enable them to get to know themselves in a better way. Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul emphasised that the museum will be opening its doors in the year 2020.

In addition to the above, Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul expressed that the exhibition where pieces that depict the national strive and tell the inspiring story of Dr. Fazıl Küçük will be displayed here in our country, followed by exhibiting in the 14 Turkic Republics. This will be path to reach the world; telling the story of the Turkish Cypriots’ strives to continue existing. Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul said that this made the exhibition rather significant as it will act as a door to tell the world; triggering solidarity and bonds between us and the Turkic world.

The Exhibition will be exhibited in 14 Different Turkic Republics…
Subsequent to the exhibition to be held in Cyprus, it was revealed that the exhibition will also be exhibited in Turkey, followed by other Turkic Republics; including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tatary, Bashkortostan, Altay, Saha, Tıva, Khakassia and Gagauzia.
