Dr. Filiz Besim, the Minister of Health, visited the ‘Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National Struggle Exhibition

Dr. Filiz Besim, the Minister of Health paid a visit to Near East University Board of Trustees Chairman Associate Professor İrfan S. Günsel in his office. Then, she toured the university campus and visited the 'Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National Struggle Exhibition'.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, the Health Minister Dr. Filiz Besim paid a visit to NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Associate Professor İrfan Günsel in his office and received information about the Near East University Hospital and activities carried out by the university.

Accompanied by NEU Board of Trustees Member Mehmet Soykurt, vice Rector Professor Tamer Şanlıdağ and Professor Murat Özgeren, Technology Consultant of NEU Board of Trustees Chairman, the Minister of Health Dr. Besim visited the Cyprus Arts Center at Atatürk Culture and Congress Center (AKKM) to see the exhibition themed on 'Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National Struggle' that organized by Cyprus Turkish National History Museum in memory of the 35th death anniversary of Dr. Fazıl Küçük, the leader of Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for freedom and existence.

During the visit, Near East University General Coordinator Görkem Bulunç provided the Health Minister Dr. Besim with information regarding the exhibition that comprises 165 original artworks created by 92 talented artists of our country.

Expressing her emotions during her visit to the exhibition, the Minister of Health Dr. Filiz Besim stated that it was very enjoyable to experience and figure out the recent past through photographs and distinct artworks depicting Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for existence and freedom. She emphasized that she was very impressed by the exhibition.

"I want to say that I'm really impressed. I also visited Dr. Fazıl Küçük Museum at the Kyrenia Gate before but to experience and to remember the recent history through such artworks and photographs depicting directly those years was a great pleasure” noted the Minister of Health.

Indicating that such exhibitions exploit their potentials as a learning place and have an active role in contributing to the history of society, the Minister of Health MD Filiz Besim expressed her views: "A society is a stable community provided that its foundations lay on its history. It is not possible to exist and long live for a society without staking a claim on the historical and cultural heritage. If you are bound up with these lands with strong historic roots, you have a history and a present grounding on your history. A society needs to know its past and the present well before setting out to explore the future. In this regard, all these are contributions provided for our own memory and history. In this aspect, I consider this exhibition very significant. I would like to extend my gratitude and congratulations mainly to the Founding Rector Dr. Suat Günsel and everyone for their contributions to the exhibition" said she.

Then, the Minister of Health MD Filiz Besim visited Robotic Soccer Team and 3D labs at NEU Innovation and Information Technologies Center, Animal Hospital of NEU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Experimental Health Sciences Research Center (DESAM). Dr. Besim made some observations and received information about the projects being carried out by the respective centers.

Academic Success Vision of the Near East University was expressed...
Vice Rector Professor Tamer Şanlıdağ, who accompanied the Minister of Health MD Filiz Besim during the visit, delivered information regarding the point reached by Near East University in academic studies. Underlining that Near East University was among the top 5 universities offering higher education in Turkey, Professor Şanlıdağ stated that Near East University had covered significant steps towards being a 4th generation university. Underlining that more than 1200 scientific studies of the Faculty Members of the Near East University were published in 2018 by international journals scanned in Web of Science and Scopus, Professor Şanlıdağ informed the Minister of Health about the university’s academic achievements, research studies, championships, patents. "With her gigantic steps towards being a 4th generation university, Near East University has become a dynamic open innovation space and the most preferred university that labeled many new species through notable scientific publications” said he.
