Cyprus Turkish National History Museum, which is within the body of the Near East University Education Foundation, has organized a photography contest themed on Turkish Cypriot National Struggle. The photographs submitted for the contest have been assessed by the Selection Committee. The exhibition, where the photographs considered eligible for the contest will be displayed, is opening on Tuesday March 5, 2019.
The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that the photographs deemed eligible for the photo contest would be exhibited at the Cyprus Arts Center, which is located at Atatürk Culture and Congress Center (AKKM), on Tuesday, March 5, 2019.
The photography contest themed "Turkish Cypriot National Struggle" is consisted of two categories. The first category is relevant to the photographs taken during the years of the national struggle while the second category features the photos depicting places such as old military positions, trenches, historical places, old buildings and streets, tools and equipment specific to the national struggle years.
Photos Ranking the Top Three Will Be Awarded…
The second category of the contest is a prize competition. The photographs presented for the contest have been assessed by the Selection Committee. Photographs ranking the top three will be awarded. The first-placed photograph will be awarded with 3000Tl, the second-placed one will be awarded with 2000Tl and the third-placed one will be awarded with 1000Tl. The Selection Committee will also determine three contestants for honorable mention award. The holders of photographs considered eligible for the contest but not eligible for prize will be presented a participation certification. The participants, who will contest in the old photographs category, will be presented a Certificate of Honor provided that their photographs are accepted for exhibition by the Cyprus Turkish National History Museum.

Underlining their commitment to continuing to work devotedly to convey the cultural, historical and artistic heritage to next generations, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Founding Chairman of the Board of the Cyprus Turkish National History Museum, Professor Ali Efdal Ozkul stated that young generations need to know the past and national history well before setting out to explore and shape the future. "It is of utmost importance to depict the Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for existence and freedom through photographs taken by people who have witnessed the history. In this regard, the exhibition themed Turkish Cypriots National Struggle through Photographs depicting the national struggle years has a significant function in terms of ensuring an environment where the Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for existence and freedom come alive" said he.
Professor Ali Efdal Ozkul underlines that the aim of the photo contest is to gather visual materials regarding our national struggle with the contribution of the photographers, who experienced and witnessed those days, and to convey them to the next generations through the Turkish Cypriot National History Museum, which will open its doors to visitors in 2020. “Thus, it will be possible to convey the social, political and economic history of the island to the future in the most appropriate way with the contribution of those who witnessed the events experienced during the national struggle years” noted he.
