Kyrgyz artist Almaz Sharshekeev's solo art exhibition consisting of 25 artworks exclusively prepared for the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts was opened by the Minister of Finance Olgun Amcaoğlu.

According to the information provided by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of the Near East University, Minister of Finance Olgun Amcaoğlu, Turkey's Nicosia Embassy Representative Kadir Akçeşme, Near East University Founding Rector Dr. Suat İrfan Günsel, vice rectors, deans, lecturers, guest artists and art lovers attended to the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

At the opening of the exhibition, Vice Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Minister of Finance Olgun Amcaoğlu made a speech each.

Professor Dr. Şanlıdağ: “We assume the role of becoming the Global Information Center in education, health, science and arts…”
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, making the first opening speech, said that within the last 8 months, more than 50 exhibitions held on the campus, hundreds of artists have created nearly 10 thousand works and 7 museums in the museums area on the campus will meet the art lovers.

Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said “With the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts which is planned to be opened on November 15, 2020, in the museums area of the Near East University, the Cyprus Car Museum, Herbarium and Natural History Museum, National History Museum, Maritime Museum, Knife and Sword Museum will also meet art lovers.”

Stating that they have built an indestructible Art Bridge from Asia to the Mediterranean, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ emphasized that with the exhibitions of the artists coming from Turkmenistan, Tatarstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Cyprus and other Turkish communities a journey has been started to explore the artistic heritage, reality, mysticism and our invisible world.

Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ stating that the university is progressing to be a leading scientific centre of the world in the fields of education, science, health, innovation and art, the ultimate aim of the university is to be enlisted among the top 500 universities, and thus the Near East University adopted the 4th Generation University model and all scientific outputs of various research studies are used for the benefit of the society.

In his speech, Minister of Finance Olgun Amcaoğlu stated that with the cutting of each exhibition ribbon there was a door opening to the art world and that the artists who came to our country behind this door provided a support to the promotion with their artistic talents.

Minister Amcaoğlu said, “The fact that we have a little salt in this promotional soup is the most demanded and desirable thing for the statesmen who are trying to contribute to the development of their country. We hereby would like to thank Founding Rector Suat Günsel and his family for their contributions to the promotion of the country."

Minister Amcaoğlu, who also thanked the artists who brought our country together with the world in the artistic sense, said that they will continue to contribute to the goals planned to be achieved in 2020 together with the Cyprus Museum of Modern Art. Finance Minister Olgun Amcaoğlu ended his words saying that while achieving these goals our country can also reach the goals that it wants to achieve both in science and promotion.

Silver Key Honor Award was presented and Exhibition Ribbon was cut...
Following the speeches, Finance Minister Olgun Amcaoğlu presented Kyrgyz artist Almaz Sharshekeev with the Silver Key Honor Award.

Speaking after the presentation of the award, Almaz Sharshekeev said, "as an artist from Kyrgyzstan, I welcomed the invitation to participate in the project of creating a Museum of Modern Art in the territory of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. I would like to thank the Founding Rector Suat Bey and his team for giving me the excitement of opening a personal exhibition. We know how important the cooperation of our countries in the field of art and culture is. In my paintings exhibited in the exhibition, I tried to reflect the colors of my country, the characteristics of the human image and the characteristics of national traditions and customs.”

Exhibition Visited…
Then the exhibition ribbon was cut and the opening of the exhibition was realized. The exhibition, which includes abstraction works, will be open to visitors at the Faculty of Communication Exhibition Hall until 19 July 2019 between 08.00-16.00 hours on weekdays.
