Cooperation Protocol signed between Near East University and Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University to hold competitions on “My Museum” and “From Alasia to the TRNC”

Turkey and the TRNC will lead the way and hold two separate visual arts competitions and will exhibit the artworks at the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts.

In cooperation with the Near East University and Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, two halls of the Near East University Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts and Cyprus Turkish National History Museum will be transformed into a special arts halls where the artworks of disabled artists and MA students will be exhibited. In addition to the art protocol, an "Academic and Scientific Cooperation Protocol" also was signed between the parties.

According to a press information provided by the Near East University Press and Public Relations Directorate, Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University Graduate Training Institute will hold a competition titled "From Alasia to the TRNC" among the MA students continuing their studies at an MA art program in TRNC and Turkey universities, and the Visual Arts Education Research and Application Centre for Disableds (HEGSEM) will organize a competition for disables over 18 years old titled "My Museum".

At the protocol ceremony signed between Near East University and Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, Vice Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Vice Rector of Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University Prof. Dr. Aydın Karapınar, Founding Chairman of Cyprus Turkish National History Museum & Dean of NEU Faculty of Arts and Sciences Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul, as well as Hacı Bayram Veli University Institute Director Prof. Dr. Figen Zaif and Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Bülent Salderay was present.

The works selected in these competitions within the framework of the cooperation protocol will be exhibited in special halls to be established in the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts and Cyprus Turkish National History Museum. The first 100 works selected by the jury in the “My Museum” competition, where disabled individuals will participate with their works, and the first 200 works selected in the competition titled "From Alasia to the TRNC", which will be attended by graduate art students, will be permanently included in the museum collection.

Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, "As Near East University, we are in cooperation with more than 100 countries, institutions and organizations. A general protocol will be a very important protocol for us. It will not only become just a signed protocol, but also we believe that it will open the paths that will enable us to implement our objectives in practice. At the moment, we are about to complete a project we have been working on since the last year, the project of Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts. About 4 thousand artists are backing to this project. We have hosted artists from the Turkic Republics and Turkey as well as from other countries during the last 11 months. So far we have gathered 15 thousand artworks. Our goal is to open the museum on November 15, 2020. I think that as of the establishment date of the Turkish Republic of Cyprus, more than 20 thousand works will have been accumulated in this regard”.

Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said that a total of 7 museums will be established on Near East University Campus. Şanlıdağ also said "We want to produce the first domestic electric car in our geography. We will produce it under the name ‘Günsel. This year, we will introduce 3 prototypes of this car to car lovers. Then we will start mass production. We have set ourselves an academic goal. We want to become one of the most reputable universities in the world and maintain our existence. In this context, we are making efforts for our institution and our country in mobilization throughout our organization ”.

Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Aydın Karapınar said that the cooperation protocols made with the Near East University will not remain on paper. “Although it is a new university, Hacı Bayram Veli University is based on a long history. It has a historical background linked to Gazi University. With this background, we started to announce the name of our university in every field. We want to be a university specializing in social sciences. We care about art. We want to establish a close relationship with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. We do not want these bilateral cooperation protocols to remain so-called. Today we are taking our first step to Cyprus with Near East University. We are going to sign a couple of ptocols. One of them is the Goodwill Protocol. Another one is about the establishment of a museum. We will open a competition; In this competition, we will collect works and hold exhibitions. I do wish that our attempts will be beneficial to both universities and the two countries”.

A total of 200 works that will be exhibited will be included in the “Cyprus Modern Art Museum” and “Cyprus Turkish National History Museum” Collection. The dates of the competition and exhibition will be announced on the websites of Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University and Near East University. The results will be announced on the official website of Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University and ANear East University. Works deemed worthy of exhibition will be delivered by hand or by cargo to the address specified by May 8, 2020 at the latest. The owners of the first three works in the competition will be hosted by Near East University at the Guesthouse of Near East University with a person to be taken with them for 3 days. A total of 200 works worthy of exhibition will be included in the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts and Cyprus Turkish National History Museum collections. Each artist whose works have been ranked and deemed worthy of exhibit will be given a certificate of participation and acceptance to the collection and a competition catalog.
