Buffavento Castle was built in Kyrenia Mountains as a watchtower for the defense and watching the coasts of the island against the Islamic State raids coming from the north of the island during the Byzantine period. The castle, located on the top of Çatalköy, east of Kyrenia, was named Buffavento, which means the one standing against the winds.
