Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts bid farewell to 2022 with the “Fine Arts End of Year Exhibition”, which met art lovers at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center Exhibition Hall with the participation of President Ersin Tatar

Bringing together 50 artworks of 20 artist-academicians, the “Fine Arts End of Year Exhibition” can be visited free of charge at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center Exhibition Hall until 13 January.

The “Fine Arts End of Year Exhibition”, exclusively prepared for the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts by 20 artist-academicians from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of Near East University, was opened at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center Exhibition Hall with the participation of President Ersin Tatar.

“Fine Arts End of Year Exhibition”, which is the 432nd exhibition of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts brings together 50 artworks consisting of painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking and stained glass.

The opening was hosted by Near East University Founding Rector Dr. Suat İrfan Günsel and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Enterprises Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel. President Ersin Tatar, Nicosia Deputy Ahmet Savaşan, University of Kyrenia Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu and Rector of Final International University Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Yaratan and many artists, academics, students and art lovers attended the opening ceremony.

The opening speeches of the exhibition, which can be visited free of charge until January 13, were made by President Ersin Tatar, Near East University Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygen.


President Ersin Tatar: “The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts is making a great call to humanity with its 432nd exhibition and thousands of works of art.”
President Ersin Tatar, who started his speech by saying “I am happy to be together with you in this nice environment”, reminded that the week we are in is “December 21st – 25th, National Struggle and Martyrs Week” and said, “Yesterday, we were at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center again. We watched the oratorio of our Security Forces Command’s orchestra performed with great success in that magnificent hall. We all relived what happened in those difficult and painful days. On the other hand, we were proud to leave those difficult days behind and reach today.”

President Tatar said, “The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts is making a great call to humanity with its 432nd exhibition and thousands of works of art,” and said, “Despite the isolations and embargoes, we continue to shout our existence defiantly to the world.”

“I sincerely congratulate the Günsel Family, especially the Near East University Founding Rector, Dr. Suat İrfan Günsel and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Enterprises Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel,” said President Ersin Tatar, and added; “We express our national pride, GÜNSEL, developed on this campus, to all the high-level guests we host from Turkey and the world, that we will embrace this project as the TRNC state.”

Congratulating all the artists, who have created beautiful works, at the opening of the exhibition, President Tatar ended his speech by saying “I wish that these openings that carry our country forward will continue without slowing down”.


Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ: “Each project kneaded with rising art, science and technology on the Near East University Campus is the lifeblood of our country, which is determined to carry its existence into the future.”
Starting his speech by stating that the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts is making its name known to the whole world by progressing a little more each day with its works and artists, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “Under the leadership of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, a strong art wave is spreading from the Near East University campus to our country and the whole world. Each project kneaded with rising art, science and technology on the Near East University Campus is the lifeblood of our country, which is determined to carry its existence into the future.”

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “This productivity, born with the power we get from art and science, has also brought the position of Near East University among world universities to a very important level. Following the rankings of Times Higher Education and ODTÜ URAP, Near East University was ranked as the best university in the TRNC in the AD Scientific Index 2023 World University Rankings, while it was ranked 5th in Turkey and 408th in Europe. Near East University left its mark on the list, which also includes the best academics of the TRNC. 9 of the top 10 academicians of the TRNC; 15 of the top 20 academicians are from Near East University. I congratulate all our academics who contributed to these achievements. Congratulations to everyone involved.”


Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç: “With the opening of the new building of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, our artistic and cultural presence will become stronger. Future generations, on the other hand, will continue on their way, nourished by all these values we have.”
Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design Dean Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç started his speech at the opening of the “Fine Arts End of Year Exhibition” by stating that the artists of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design have been holding group exhibitions for the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts every month for about five years.

Stating that the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts sheds light on future generations, Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç said, “Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts is an unprecedented masterpiece for us. With the completion of the new building of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, our artistic and cultural presence will become stronger. Future generations, on the other hand, will continue on their way by feeding off all these values we have.”

Prof. Dr. Aygenç finalized his speech by saying: “I would like to thank the entire Near East Family, especially Near East University Founding Rector Dr. Suat İrfan Günsel and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Enterprises Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel.”
