The cultural identity and history of Cyprus are at the Walled City Museum!
The Walled City Museum, waiting for its visitors at the Kyrenia Gate in Nicosia, makes a note in history by carrying the history and culture of Cyprus to the present day. The museum, which brings together various historical events such as the Ottoman Empire’s conquest of Nicosia, the arrival of the British in Larnaca, and the July 20, 1974 Peace Operation, with its unique ceiling paintings, sheds light on the cultural past of Cyprus with works from different periods.
Artifacts of various styles and periods are exhibited on each floor of the Walled City Museum, where there are 9 three-meter bronze statues at the entrance. In its inventory, the museum has a toy car collection consisting of over 3 thousand pieces, swords and knives. There are over 70 sculptures, paintings, objects related to maritime history, Karagöz-Hacivat images, Ottoman artifacts such as charters, edicts, kadi registers of Nicosia, and carpets from the 17th century. Among the hyperrealistic silicone sculptures of many names that have a place in the history and culture of the Turkish Cypriot community, are Rauf Raif Denktaş, Dr. Fazıl Küçük, Osman Örek and Cengiz Topel.
Near East University campus hosts three unique museums!
The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, the Cyprus Car Museum and the Herbarium and Natural History Museum are awaiting for their visitors on the Near East University campus. The Cyprus Car Museum, of which rich classic car collection is among the world’s leading museums, fascinates its visitors with its toys made from various machine parts, model car collection, pedal cars, Batman and Transformers figures, ship models and many other works. The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, located on the Near East University campus, is the largest contemporary art museum in the region with over 50 thousand works of art in its collections. The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, which has a rich collection of paintings and sculptures consisting of works by artists from 14 Turkish communities, also continues to exhibit many special collections, from ship models to glassware and swords. The Herbarium and Natural History Museum, also located on the Near East University campus will provide you and your children with the opportunity to examine the mountain history of Cyprus with 11 thousand different plant specimens, mushroom species, insect species, various reptile species, sea creatures, fossils and rocks, all under one roof.
