He was born in 1962 in Varto, Muş. He graduated from the Department of Painting, Gazi Teacher Training High School in 1982.
In 1989, he completed his master’s degree at Hacettepe University, Fine Arts Faculty, Department of Painting.
In 1994, he completed the proficiency in arts program at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting. In 1997, he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, and then promoted to the rank of Professor in 2003. In 2011, he worked as a guest lecturer on New Media Arts in North Carolina State University, Faculty of Art and Design in the United States.
He was awarded the Achievement Award at the 53rd and 55th State Print Painting Exhibitions. In 1995, he was given the Art Incentive Award by Hacettepe University. He participated in 21 solo exhibitions and many national and international group exhibitions.
He worked as the Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts at Hacettepe University between the years 2006-2010. He still works as a lecturer at the same faculty and he is the director of Hacettepe Art Museum.
