Refik Aziz

Refik Aziz was born in Azerbaijan in 1953 . Between 1972-1977, he studied at Azim Azimzade Azerbaijan State Art School and graduated from here. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University with honors degree between in 1983. Between the years 1983 and 1989, he worked for the Ministry of National Education of Azerbaijan. In 1992, he founded the Union of Painters of Azerbaijan and H. Z. Tağıyev Public University. In 1994, he moved to Istanbul with his family. Between the years 1994 and 1996, he worked as an advisor at İstek Foundation for Culture and Art. He has been working as a faculty member at Yeditepe University, Faculty of Dentistry since 1996. Since 1994, he has been continuing his painting studies in his studio in Istanbul. He has been a member of Azerbaijan Painters Union since 2005. Since 2005, he has been a member of UNESCO International Plastic Arts Association. In 2014, he was given the title of Azerbaijan State Artist by the President of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Ilham Aliyev. In 2014, he was awarded the Order of Son of Fatherland by Dede Korkut National Foundation of Azerbaijan. In 2017, he was conferred upon the title of professor by the Higher Education Council of Azerbaijan. Since 1983, he has held to 30 solo exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. He participated in more than 50 national and international group exhibitions. His works have been sold in auctions. A total of his 154 artworks take place in the Turkish Air Force Headquarters, Naval Forces Headquarters, Istanbul War Academies Museum, Naval Academy Museum, Istanbul Besiktas Maritime Museum, Mersin Naval Museum, Gallipoli Piri Reis Museum, the US Embassy in Turkey, Istanbul Piri Reis University, TRNC Near East University Museum, Pera Palace hotel in Istanbul, and his paintings also take place in many private collections.
